We are appealing to RTÉ to reverse the decision to exclude Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin from all RTÉ debates during their coverage of the Dublin Central By-Election.
All of the other eight viable candidates are included in at least one debate, yet Eoghan is excluded from all three debates planned.
This is an arbitrary exclusion, which ignores the previous electoral record of Eoghan and People Before Profit in the constituency, where he was knocked out with one vote less than the former Green TD at the last general election. In 2024, Eoghan had only 131 votes less than the next candidate who is included in the debates, while his vote was double that of the next candidate who is not included. The results clearly indicate there are nine viable candidates, but RTÉ has decided to exclude one, Eoghan.
This appears to be a political decision by RTÉ - to include the voices of those who want to divide our community, but exclude a candidate who has a record of uniting people, against the Council rent increases, and in defence of cultural and artistic spaces.
It is not for RTÉ to determine what the results of the by-election will be, it is up to the people of Dublin Central. RTÉ must allow Eoghan’s voice to be heard together with the other candidates.
